AFC Wimbledon

I will always remember Wimbledon Football Club as the club against whom I had my best game and who were a tough, no nonsense club full of amateur internationals. They were regularly favourites to win their League championship, whether it was as amateurs in the Isthmian League or as semi-professionals in the Southern league.

‘The Dons’ created a great reputation and were certainly ready for The Football League when they achieved membership in 1977. A wonderful rise through the divisions brought First Division Football and FA Cup success, but eventually problems concerning a suitable home ground brought a merger with MIlton Keynes and the loss of identity.

This could not be accepted by traditional Wimbledon supporters who resurrected their club and started all over again with incredible success. Not many supporters have lived through two successful rags to riches football club stories in a lifetime. But that is what has been fought for, achieved, experienced and enjoyed by a wonderful band of Wimbledon football supporters. T.W.
