Aylesbury United

Currently Playing In:

Southern League Division One Central

The town of Aylesbury has had a football club since 1897 but in recent seasons there have been many changes in fortunes and indeed in names. After competing in the local leagues, Aylesbury United worked their way up the football pyramid in the well worn path of Spartan, Delphian, Athenian and into the Southern League in 1976.

The highlight for ‘The Ducks’ was winning the Southern Premier Division under the guidance of long serving manager Trevor Gould in 1988. This brought Conference football, but sadly the club wasn’t really ready for the highest level of the game outside the football League and when they finished at the foot of the table, Aylesbury United dropped down into The Isthmian Premier Division for the first time.

After eleven seasons at this level, with second place achieved in 1999, it was a surprise to finish at the foot of the table in the next campaign and after some league re-structuring, Aylesbury United were back in the Southern League. Sadly the club experienced a difficult spell on and off the field and lost control of their ground.

Aylesbury United are now a Spartan South Midland Premier Division club sharing the Leighton Town ground, but the club is now run by a Supporters Trust whose ambition is to take ‘United‘ back to play in Aylesbury and to climb back up the non-league pyramid.
