Although formed in 1898, Barton Rovers played in the local leagues around Luton and Bedford until 1954, when they joined the South Midlands League, from which they eventually developed into impressive champions in the late ‘seventies’ and earned a place in the Isthmian League.

With Barry Reed proving an outstanding manager, ‘Rovers’ also reached a Wembley Vase Final in 1978 and in their early Isthmian years just missed promotion to Division One in three seasons at the beginning of the ‘eighties’.

After eleven campaigns, the club moved up to Division One, but found it difficult to achieve a top ten finish at this level and after the league re-organization in 2004, Barton Rovers became a Southern League club, enjoyed an encouraging start and have consolidated well in the senior competition.
