BOSTON UNITED are a comparatively young club, having launched their career in 1933, and made steady progress through the Central Alliance, West Midlands and United Counties before being founder members of the Northern Premier League in 1969-1970. Runners Up position was achieved at the first attempt and The Championship was won on four occasions, so it was no surprise that ‘The Pilgrims’ qualified for the Football Alliance when it was introduced in the 1979-1980 season.
A disastrous campaign in 1993 saw ‘The Pilgims’ relegated back to The Northern Premier League but in the next five seasons a top six position was achieved each year. However, a swap to play in The Southern Premier brought a runners-up place, and then in 2000,  promotion back to the Conference was won as Southern League champions.
One of the most exciting Conference seasons saw Boston United edge out Dagenham & Redbridge on goal difference on the last day of the 2001-2002 campaign and five seasons were contested in The Football League before a return to non-league football saw the club forced to rebuild in The Northern Premier league after financial and political problems had threatened the clubs’ existence.
Boston United is one of the most famous football clubs outside The Football League and has taken a step back up the ‘pyramid’ to compete again in The Blue Square North and a regular push for promotion is expected by the club’s traditionally loyal supporters.
