Hampton and Richmond Borough

Altrincham Club Crest image

Hampton Football Club were formed in 1921 and competed in the Kingston & District , South West Middlesex and Surrey Senior Leagues before being accepted into The Spartan League in 1964.
With a number of experienced non-leaue players in their squad ‘The Beavers’ enjoyed a wonderful seven years in which they won five Spartan Championships and were runners-up once. This form and the developement of their ground brought an invitation to join the Athenian League in 1971, but just two seasons later Hampton moved on to The Isthmian League where they steadily developed.

With Chairman Bob Hayes and Manager Chic Botley leading the way, the club powered through Divisions One and Two between 1994 and 1998, and then, after five years in the Premier Division and a change of name to Hampton & Richmond Borough, qualified for a place in the newly formed Conference South in 2007.

Manager Alan Devonshire had brought a consistency to the club and promotion was deserved after three seasons in the top six. Disappointing defeat in the play offs in 2006 was followed by the Championship and promotion, the excitement continued, but play offs were again unsuccessful after finishing third in their first season in the Conference South.

Three difficult seasons followed, resulting in a drop back to The isthmian League where supporters will hope a rebuilding of confidence can help ‘The Beavers’ return to premier levels.
