Definitely ‘the new boy’ among the 264 clubs in the twelve leagues playing in the top four ‘Steps’ in senior football below the Football League. In November 2010 ‘SR Education’ won the rights to take over the assets of Ilkeston Town FC with a view to forming a new club. ‘Town’ had a long history with the usual ups and downs but after an impressive period between 1989 and 2010, mistakes were made and over spending resulted in serious debt and Ilkeston Town went into liquidation and closed down.

The new club started life in Division One South of The Northern Premier League, playing at the New Manor Ground and surpassed all their supporters’ expectations by finishing third and qualifying for the play-offs.

Even better, Ilkeston FC beat Sheffield 7-0 in the semi-final and then Leek Town 2-0 in The Final to reach the Premier Division in the new club’s very first season. Manager Kevin Wilson and his squad have lifted morale and with sensible off field leadership the town of Ilkeston appear to have a football club of which they can be justly proud.
