Kettering Town

Altrincham Club Crest image

Kettering Town were a club that had built an impressive record working its way through The Midland and United Counties Leagues, into The Southern League, where four Championships justifiably placed them amongst the country’s best non-league clubs.

Those titles were spread across a wide span of years and ‘The Poppies’ also enjoyed great FA Cup moments and Wembley appearances in the FA Trophy. As a long serving Conference club the old Kettering Town were also highly respected.

Sadly, off field leadership problems have struck the famous Kettering club, whose fans must have been devastated by the change in their club’s reputation. Ironically home matches have been played at Nene Park, the old home of their great rivals Rushden & Diamonds, and for most neutral football fans, the political moves and counter moves that have upset both clubs in the area, have brought much frustration and sadness.

After two tragic seasons ending in relegation surely the only way now is up and a strong Kettering Town is good for The Southern League.
