Isthmian Division One South

After their formation in 1905, Merstham played football in their home county of Surrey until 1978. Starting in the Redhill & District League and then The Surrey Senior League before joining The London Spartan League, where they established themselves as a top ten club.

In 1984 ‘The Moatsiders’ joined The Combined Counties competition where, for the first seven years they enjoyed challenging at the top of the league.  A ten year period in mid table came to an end in 2005 when, with Mick Sullivan as Manager, Merstham finished in second place for two seasons before celebrating as promoted Champions at the end of the 2007-2008 campaign.

Until the club entered The Isthmian League, their managers had all been given time to build their squads, with ex-player Joe McElligott giving nine years service. Football in the higher level brings more pressures, but Merstham’s encouraging ninth place finish in 2011-2012 indicates the club are settling down as an Isthmian club.
