Redbridge Forest

Considering so many traditional East London football club names were involved, the fact that Redbridge Forest only played under that name for three seasons is surprising.

Leytonstone and Ilford had merged when both clubs were under financial strain in 1979 and neighbours Walthamstow Avenue joined them to form Redbridge Forest in 1989. All three had been well established Essex clubs with impressive records and traditional supporters.

Manager John Still was the ideal manager to link the clubs together without too much dissent and the Chairman to make the amalgamation successful was David Andrews.
Then in 1992, the five well known Essex footballing names were all being represented by Dagenham & Redbridge.

Between them, Leytonstone & Ilford and Redbridge Forest achieved five championships in thirteen seasons, plus Walthamstow Avenue and Dagenham who had won many on their own, but the future for Essex non-league football was to be in the hands of Dagenham & Redbridge FC. Tremendous experience on and off the field could be called upon and there would always be with the chance of progress to The Football League!
