Stalybridge Celtic

Altrincham Club Crest image

Peter Wragg and Peter O’Brien both enjoyed substancial stints as Manager of ‘Celtic’ and never finished a season lower than fifth place. In 1986-87 winning the championship brought promotion to The Northern Premier League Division One and year later another move up was won to NLP Premier Division.

After two seasons struggling to survive, Phil Wilson took over and promotion to The Conference was achieved after two more campaigns.  As it turned out The Conference seemed a step too high and The NPL was possibly a step too low. The ideal answer to this was the introduction of The Conference North, and Stalybridge Celtic have been members of the new division ever since, appearing to get stronger by the season.

Some very good managers have served Stalybridge Celtic and now with the experienced Jim Harvey in charge and five consecutive top ten finishes in the last six campaigns, confidence will be understandably high.
