Stamford

Currently Playing In:

Northern Premier League Division One South

Stamford Football Club was formed in1896 and played their first league football in the Peterborough competition before moving on to The Northants League. This was the forerunner to The United Counties Football League, with whom they enjoyed their first spell between 1908 and 1955.

With many East Midland Football clubs developing after the Second World War, ‘The Daniels’ moved to The Central Alliance from 1955 to1961, then transferred to The Midland Combination from 1961 to 1972, after which they joined The United Counties Football League.

This was the start of a thrilling period in their history, as seven United Counties League Championships were won and three Wembley visits produced a famous FA Vase victory over Guisborough in 1980.

Two championships in 1978 and 1979 prepared the club for Southern League football and although no league trophies have been won since, at least supporters have enjoyed a variety of opposition.

‘The Daniels’ have played in the Midland and Eastern Divisions plus one year in the Premier Division of The Southern League ‘family’ and more recently, season 2007-2008 in the Premier Division of the Northern Premier League, plus a steadying period in Division One South. But a morale boosting campaign in 2012-2013 brought promotion to The Conference North for the first time and prospects of another exciting adventure, thanks to the play-offs.
