Northern Premier League Division One North

A club that has played under four different names since 2002 can understandably be a little difficult for the average fan to follow. After formation in 1903 as Emley, the club worked their way up to The Northern Premier League Premier Division and in 1988, while a member of The Northern Counties East, they reached an FA Vase Final at Wembley.

Originally the club had started in the Huddersfield League, ‘The Bears‘ then moved on to The Yorkshire League in which they won three championships in their last five years. This led to a move up to The Northern Counties East in 1982 and two consecutive championships again brought promotion into The Northern Premier League in 1989.

N.P.L. Premier Division status was achieved in 1992. The club then competed at this level under three different names before dropping down to Division One and have played as Wakefield Football Club ever since but have experienced difficulty in achieving top ten finishes.
