Wealdstone

Altrincham Club Crest image

One of the famous old amateur clubs, Wealdstone were formed in1899 and have changed leagues consistently in a long and exciting history, with their early days spent in The Willesden & District League, The London League and The Middlesex League.

As senior Amateur clubs sorted their ‘pecking order’ out in the home counties, Wealdstone moved up to The Spartan League (1922-1929) and The Athenian League (1928-1964) before moving across to the quickly expanding Isthmians in 1964.

‘The Stones’ were one of the leading ‘amateur’ clubs who chose to become honest professionals, so joined the Southern League in 1971. In fact the club produced many famous non-league players, many of whom enjoyed the clubs Wembley victories in The F.A. Amateur Cup in 1965-66 and The F.A.Trophy in 1984-1985.

Some famous non-league managers have made contributions to Wealdstone’s history and having solved problems concerning a ground of their own, the club is back in the Isthmian League after the experiencing earlier life in The ‘Alliance’ and Southern Premier divisions. They have certainly benefitted from the guidance and dedicated care of long serving manager Gordon Bartlett.
