Wrexham

Altrincham Club Crest image

After formation in 1872 the North Wales club played in Welsh leagues until in 1906 when they joined The Birmingham & District League. In 1921 the club was accepted by The Football League, where ‘The Robins’ enjoyed a sound but unspectacular stay in the two lower divisions from 1921-2008.

In 2004-2005 Wrexham lost their place in Division One but sadly, they slid into the relegation zone in three seasons with finishes of twelfth, nineteenth and then, fatally, twenty-fourth in 2008.

After such a long run in the Football League it must have been upsetting for the club and its supporters, but after two mid table finishes, Wrexham have challenged for promotion and with finishes in fourth and fifth position as well as runners up.

Only play-off results have prevented their promotion bids and they will be favourites to return to the Football League very quickly.
