FATROPHY THIRD ROUND
With just one game postponed through wintery weather the Third Round headlines were dominated by the AFC and FC clubs.
Conference North leaders AFC Fylde, enjoying the confidence gained with an unbeaten run of fourteen games including victories in their last ten matches, were expected to cope with a trip to FC United of Manchester who were seventh in The Northern Premier League.
However, a superb 1,732 attendance enjoyed an impressive 3-2 victory which ensured they would be the junior member competing in the FA Trophy quarter finals
Three ‘all Conference’ Premier ties produced draws, with Gateshead continuing their busy cup season with a 1-1 result at Wrexham, form club Dover Athletic played their part in a 3-3 thriller at Woking and FC Halifax Town gained a replay at Dartford.
Torquay United qualified safely with a 2-0 victory at Hemel Hempstead and can concentrate on their efforts to return to the Football League, while Bath City, another West Country club, are safely through and can join North Ferriby United as the two Conference Regional clubs in the last eight.
So the FA Trophy quarter finals will be fought out by four Conference Premier clubs two from Conference South and one each from The Conference North and The Northern Premier League.
