Non-League Review

13 October 2014

The match of the day in the Southern Premier produced a thrilling 3-2 victory for St Neots Town against leaders Poole Town, who were previously unbeaten in the League.

There should be an excellent battle for promotion as Weymouth have a powerful squad with games in hand and Dunstable Town, Corby Town and Hungerford Town are also capable of a challenge.

The form of goalscorers is always important and St Neots recent success has been helped by seven goals from Drew Roberts in the last four games.

Forcasting non-league results can be as difficult as they are in The Football League and not many experts would have forecast a 4-2 victory for Alfreton Town, a club with four consecutive defeats without a goal scored, who beat Torquay United, third in the Conference, with five clean sheets in the last eight games.

Clubs, who may not have been pre season favourites who are enjoying excellent form are Rushall Olympic in the Northern Premier League, Isthmian club Leiston and Dunstable Town in the Southern League.

Hat tricks win matches and so far this season it appears that defensive marking may be a lot better in the senior leagues.

League totals so far this season are:

Northern Premier 10
Southern Premier 10
Isthmian Premier   7
Conference South   6
Conference North   4
Conference   4
