Form at the start of a season can often influence a club’s whole campaign. So Nuneaton Town will be relieved to have followed their five consecutive goalless games with three goals and two victories at home.  Their defeat at Torquay gave the Devon club reassurance that their own bad start was being turned round and they have now moved up to a challenging fifth position. In fact, since their 1-3 defeat on the opening day of the season, ‘The Gulls’ have only conceded two goals in seven games.

Two clubs scoring plenty of goals, who may not have featured as favourites in the pre-season forcasts, are Leiston and Ilkeston Town.  The Isthmian club have scored 24 goals in their first ten games with three players Gareth Heath (6), Joe Francis (5) and Craig Parker (5) all featuring in the National Strike Force top 50.

Ilkeston Town from the Northern Premier League have scored 22 goals in their first eight games, with a lively striking partnership in Rob Duffy (8) and Kane Richards (7). In fact Duffy shares the position as top scorer so far this season with Ryan Moss of Margate and Luke Benbow, who has scored seven goals in Stourbridge’s last two home games!

With the four clubs still unbeaten and thrilling their supporters challenging near the top of their respective leagues, imagine how the Oxford City fans have reacted to their clubs last two results.  On Saturday 6th September they lost 1-8 at home to AFC Fylde. Then in the next match on Tuesday 9th, they travelled to second placed Boston United and won 7-2!
